Year 7 Transition: All Saints Visits
This week the children of Y6 benefited from two excellent events organised by All Saints Catholic High School: on Monday the children were visited by All Saints staff who delivered a Year 7 English taster-lesson and on Wednesday afternoon we had the chance to visit All Saints, taking part in a range of brilliant activities. Both events were designed for children who are due to attend All Saints in September and for those who are going to other secondary schools.
For their English lesson, the children created excellent 'blackout poems'. Each child was given a page of prose from a novel, before they used a pen to 'black out' certain words and sentences, leaving a particular set of words or phrases visible and creating their very own poem. The children really enjoyed this activity, and they were very excited to share their poetry with each other at the end of the lesson!
On Wednesday, the children travelled by coach to All Saints, where they were welcomed with a juice and cupcake reception. Following this, they divided into two separate groups, each of which attended a different lesson: Group 1 took part in a product design lesson where they made their very own wooden musical instrument and Group 2 had lots of fun in a food and nutrition lesson where they each made a delicious pizza. Following this, each group was guided around the school before heading to a science lesson. Group 1 enjoyed a practical lesson on electricity where they built their own circuit, and Group 2 took part in a chemistry lesson, using a universal indicator to distinguish between acids and alkalis.
We would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at All Saints for their hard work and enthusiasm over the two days, particularly Mrs. Hartley and Mrs. Murasa, who lead the excellent All Saints transition team!
