Y6 Writing: The Christmas Truce

21st Nov 2025

This week the young people of Y6 have been busy drafting their very own diary entries. Each piece of writing is written from the the point of view of a First World War British soldier and recounts the 1914 Christmas Truce during the first year of the War. The children have worked hard to master new sentences structures, using a range of clauses in order to achieve increasingly sophisticated writing. As well as encompassing a range of grammar objectives, this work also draws on last Term's history unit of learning, in which the children learnt about the causes and significant turning points of the First World War.
