Y6 Science: Animal Classification

8th Dec 2024

During Term 2, the children of Y6 have been studying the classification of living things. We initially focused on establishing the three broad classifications of living things: animals, plants and microorganisms. After this, the children learnt about the defining characteristics of each group, before focusing on the various subdivisions within each classification. This week, the children have produced excellent pieces of work in their science books which detail their new learning around animal classification, specifically the different ways in which biologists group vertebrate animals. In our remaining lessons of the unit, the children will learn more about classifying invertebrates, as well as studying the ways in which we can classify microorganisms and plants in greater detail.
