Y6 RE: The Sorrowful Mysteries

21st Apr 2025

In our RE lessons during Holy Week the children of Y6 explored the days preceding Jesus' crucifixion. To do this, we used the five Sorrowful Mysteries of the rosary as a basis for our work: The Agony in the Garden, The Scourging at the Pillar, The Crowning with Thorns, The Carrying of the Cross, The Crucifixion and Death.

The children used various artistic depictions of the mysteries as an aid to understanding how these events unfolded, before relating each piece of art to the relevant extracts of the Gospels. This activity of course built upon the children's existing knowledge of the life of Jesus, giving them the opportunity to reflect deeply on the actions, words and sacrifice of Jesus during the most holy period within the liturgical year.
