Y5 RE: The Stations of the Cross

27th Mar 2026

This week our Y5 children have been learning and writing about the Stations of the Cross. This has helped us to reflect prayerfully on the final steps of Jesus to his crucifixion.

The Stations of the Cross (or Way of Sorrows) are fourteen traditional scenes depicting scenes from Jesus' last day - from his condemnation until his burial They are used primarily for Lent and Good Friday, these stations are a form of contemplative prayer and spiritual pilgrimage and are special within our Catholic tradition.
  1. Jesus is condemned to death
  2. Jesus carries his cross
  3. Jesus falls the first time
  4. Jesus meets his mother
  5. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry the cross
  6. Veronica wipes Jesus' face
  7. Jesus falls the second time
  8. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem
  9. Jesus falls the third time
  10. Jesus is stripped of his garments
  11. Jesus is nailed to the cross
  12. Jesus dies on the cross
  13. Jesus is taken down from the cross
  14. Jesus is laid in the tomb
