Y4 History: Our Amazing Viking Adventure!

25th Jan 2026

Year 4 had a brilliant end to the week as they stepped back in time during their visit to Murton Park Viking Village. Our classroom learning was truly brought to life through an immersive glimpse into Viking life.

They met a Viking named Gorm, who showed us around the village and introduced us to its lord. The children were welcomed into the longhouse, where they learned how to mill flour and cook bread over an open fire. They also played a Viking game, which our Y4 children decided would be a great addition to school playtime!

Later in the day, the children created tallow lamps from clay, and the lord taught them how to defend the village from intruders. They were soon able to put their new skills to the test when the village received an unwelcome visit from an Anglo-Saxon!

It was a truly fantastic dayand we thank Mrs Hambleton for supporting the pkanning and coordination of the day, the SJF who also supported the children so brilliantly aloing with our incredible volunteers, without whome this special visit would not have been possible.

We also that the team at Murton Park for bringing history alive and engaging the children so brilliantly. The team was very complimentary about the behaviour, manners and engagement of our fantastic children, who all had a super day!
