Y4 Science: How do we hear?

12th Jun 2025

Our Y4 Scientists have been very busy this week as they continue to learn about sound and how it works. This week, they haveexplored how the ear works and how the shape of our ears help to amplify sound.

The children then looked more closely at the middle and inner ears as they explored sound and hearing in animals and learned that pigeons can hear something called infrasound, which is a sound with too low a pitch for humans to hear. This means pigeons can hear the far-off rumblings of storms, earthquakes and volcanoes, and change course to avoid them. Everyone found this amazing!
