Y4 Science: Changes of State

15th May 2025

In science this week, our Y4 children have explored the change in state of a solid (ice) to a liquid (water) and whether or not it was possible to speed up the process. Using frozen ice pops, we ran an experiment to see the effect that adding warmth and breaking up the ice had on the melting process. Ice pops on a warm day were a welcome part of the lesson! We then explored the use of thermometers and learned about the freezing and boiling point of water.

We transferred our learning outside to explore the weather station in our school grounds. The children will begin regularly monitoring our station to report on temperature, wind speed, precipitation and wind direction over the weeks to come. Well done to all our Y4 scientists!
