Y4 Science: Investigating Evaporation!

20th May 2025

In science, our Y4 children have continued to explore changes of state by conducting an experiment to test which variables affect the speed of evaporation the most.

We soaked three paper towels in the same amount of water and set a timer to see which would dry first, (i) using a hairdryer; (ii) hanging the towel to dry outside on a washing line; and (iii) by laying the paper towel on a flat surface without heat or air.

Our predictions were different, but our results showed that the hairdryer was fastest, swiftly followed by our washing line method.

Our Y4 scientists are now laundry experts too!
