Y4 Reading

24th Sep 2025

Our Y4 children are currently reading 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' by Onjali Q Rauf.

The book tells the story about a young refugee from Syria who joins a primary school class in the United Kingdom. As we learn more about the boy, we discover details about his daily life back in his home country. For example, this week the children learned that pomegranates grow in Syria, so they decided to investigate further!

The author describes the fruit as being "like extra-shiny balls that have been dipped into a bucket of sunset colours, like peach and pink and gold ... when you pull one open, it's like finding a million sparkling red rubies all squashed together."  Our Y4 children would definitely agree!
