Y4 History: Why did the Vikings settle in Britain?

9th Jan 2026

This week, our Y4 historians began their exciting new history topic on the Vikings.

They learned where the Vikings came from and explored the reasons why they invaded and settled in Britain. The children also investigated why the first Viking raid on the monastery at Lindisfarne was so successful.

Their curiosity has been sparked, with lots of thoughtful questions already being raised, and they are very much looking forward to their forthcoming educational visit to a real Viking village to help uncover some of the answers.

Well done, everyone – what a fantastic start to the topic!
