Y4 Art: Exploring the Art of Roy Leichenstein
25th Jun 2026
Our Y4 artists have continued their exploration of Pop Art this week, focusing on the work of the renowned artist Roy Lichtenstein and, in particular, his use of bold primary colours and distinctive Ben-Day dots to create his iconic artwork.
Ben-Day dots were developed by illustrator Benjamin Henry Day Jr. as a printing technique used to add colour, shading and texture to illustrations and comic strips. Lichtenstein famously adopted and enlarged this technique, making it a defining feature of his artwork.
Inspired by his style, the children then created their own Pop Art pieces, carefully using Ben-Day dots to add colour, tone and shading to their pictures.
Well done, everyone!
