Y1 Science: Investigating Paper

2nd Mar 2026

As part of our materials topic, the children explored the question: “Which is the strongest paper?”

Each child made a prediction before working collaboratively to carry out a fair test. An empty pot was attached to each type of paper, and marbles were gradually added. When the paper tore and the pot fell, the number of marbles it had held was carefully recorded.

The children then analysed their findings and drew conclusions based on the evidence gathered, reflecting on whether their original predictions were accurate.
