Y1 Maths: Investigating Mass

30th Jun 2025

Last week our Y1 children compared a range of objects to find out which were heavier and lighter. Today they used balance scales to discover how many cubes it would take to balance out against different objects. Cubes are non-standard units of measure. Later in the week the children will repeat this investigation, but this time they will use standard units (Kilograms and grams).

At home you could investgate heavier and lighter items by looking at the numbers on sides of packets and tins of food to see which items are heavier or lighter.
