World Book Day 2019

3rd Mar 2019

World Book Day 2019

This year World Book Day is on Thursday 7th March 2018 and our theme is 'Bedtime Reading' in recognition of the fact that enjoying a book at bedtime is one of the most important things children can do every day before they go to sleep.

Dressing Up

On World Book Day all our children (and staff) are invited to come to school dressed up in pyjamas or 'onesies' and our PTFA will collect £1+ per pupil donations on the school gate which will be used to cover part of the cost of an author visit that week.

Lots of stories will be shared during the week and this year teachers will also visit another year group in order to read the class a story.

‘Book in a Box’

We will also run a ‘Book in a Box’ competition. Children can choose one of their favourite books and then decorate a shoe-box (or any other small box) to represent it. These can be done at home and brought in and left with the children's class teachers on Thuirsday.

‘Book Drive;

There will also be a 'Book Drive' actually taking place on Thursday. If possible, we would like all the children to bring a book from home that they no longer want (and that is in good condition). All the children who have brought books in will then be given the chance to pick another book that another child has brought in.

Book Fayre

ON Monday 4th March Usbourne will be holding a Book Fayre in the School Library. The children will have an opportunity to look through the books during the course of the day. The library will also be open from 3.00pm for parents and carers to look through the books. Entry will be via the pedestrian gate, which will be supervised from that point on. The book fayre will stay open until 4.00pm.

Unwanted Books

We are always grateful to receive suitable but unwanted books which are in a good condition and can be added to the library or classroom Book Corners.

Author Visit

We will be visited by Simon Adepetun on Monday 11th March. He will lead an assembly and then spend time with the children in Years 2-6. Last year the younger children were visited by an author. Simon describes himself as a creative writer and children’s author. He is Manchester born and bred. His debut children's novel ‘The Bee Hive’ was illustrated by his daughter and published on 31st May 2016. Since then he has been a guest on a number of radio stations including BBC Radio Manchester, BBC Radio Merseyside and BBC Radio Lancashire.

Extreme Reading Challenge 2019

Between now and Thursday 7th March 2019 the children are invited to enter this year’s  ‘Extreme Reading’ competition. Think of the weirdest, strangest and funniest place to read a book and then take a picture and email it to us (enquiries@st-johnfisher.org). You can also send in ‘photo-shopped’ pictures!

Please do not take any risks though! We do not want any of our children injured in the pursuit of the perfect photograph! Winners will receive Book Vouchers. Please confirm that you are happy for photos to be posted on the website (names will not be added). Thank you.
