UPDATE: SJF Eco Team

24th Nov 2024

Here is a message from Mrs Steenson, our Coordinator...

On Wednesday, the SJF Eco Team had an amazing morning. leading their own whole-school assembly! They were promoting the 'Cut Your Carbon Challenge', and its checklist with all the tasks that will support sustainability and help us all to become more eco-friendly.

The children also spoke about why it is so important that we make these changes - talking about greenhouse gases and the longer-term issues that we could end up facing. In fact they covered lots of carbon-cutting topics, and answered lots of key questions including:

  • What are carbon emissions and why is it important to reduce them?
  • What simple changes can be made at home and at school to cut our carbon footprints?

The children then set out their 'Can you cut your carbon in November' challenge?

The task consists of six small changes that we can all try to make, which will have a significant impact on the effect of carbon emissions on our planet. The challenge is open to children and staff, and we are hoping to gather significant data about how our community has altered their carbon footprint in just one month!

Dominic, an SJF Eco Team member in his second term, is very passionate about the cause...

“It was really nerve wracking to stand in front of the whole school, but I really enjoyed it. There was a lot more interest and involvement that we were expecting, so we are looking forward to the results! I challenge all of our teachers to the task too!"

The SJF Eco Team assembly was a great success, and I am so proud of them all for their hard work in producing it. The challenge is live right now with challenges checklists available from any member of the school Eco Team.

If you can complete the challenges at home, let us know by returning the 'Cut Your Carbon Checklist' to your class teacher before Friday 6th December 2024.
