Investigating Tens and Ones in Y1

9th Jan 2019

We have started learning how to partition a tens number into 10 digit and a 1 digit number

e.g 14 is 10+4

Today we have used 'Base 10' equipment to show this as 1 stick of 10 and 4 ones.

(Parents/carers may remember tens and units but we now use the terminology tens and ones).

The children have been amazing using resources, pictorial representations and some have even been able to make the link in an abstract way saying things like:

"Eighteen is one ten and eight ones."

We will be doing much more work on this over the coming weeks and months.  A fabulous start though.

Well done everyone!
