Tag Rugby Competition

14th Oct 2022

On the 13th of October 2022 an enthusiastic team of SJF students from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Handsworth Grange for an inter-school Tag Rugby competition organised by our friends from the LINKS School Sports Partnership. Our players were:

  • Alana
  • Alexia
  • Charlie
  • Emily
  • Hugo
  • Isabelle
  • James
  • Oscar

When the children arrived they warmed up and practised, making sure they understood the rules of the game. Everyone was focused and determined to try their best.

Our children faced teams from nine other schools - and the team played so well to reach the semi-finals! It was a very close game and we were defeated very narrowly, by two tries. Even though our players were unlucky not to qualify for the final they tried not to be too downhearted. Instead they were very proud of what they had achieved togethers as a team, and individually.

Mrs Steenson, who accompanied them said ‘Our SJF team was very gracious, initiating handshakes at the end of each match and they showed lots of examples of fair play and teamwork, well done!’

We thank the organisers and everyone at Handsworth Grange School for hosting the event and making us feel so welcome. We thank the SJF staff who accompanied our players and looked after, and encouraged them, so well. Finally, we congratulate our children for showcasing our learning values as they worked so well as a team. They were a huge credit to our school. Our thanks also go to the players from all the schools who participated, it was such a great afternoon of sport!
