Subtraction in FS2

25th Jan 2019

This week we have been practising subtraction (taking away) in maths. We have used animals on a boat to tell number stories.

We have looked at the part-part-whole model to show the story. This is a pictorial way of representing what happens when we subtract. This makes it easier for the children to understand.

We have also written number sentences to show the story. These represent the abstract.

We have mainly used numbers to 10 but we have challenged ourselves with numbers up to 20 as we got more confident.

We also played an online subtraction game.

It is great to talk about subtraction at home, especially when eating something yummy!
