SJF Wildlife Trail
Work on our new SJF Wildlife Trail is nearing completion, and we are delighted with the transformation of these previously underused areas around the school. Thanks to the tremendous support of the PTFA—particularly Catherine Cooper—funding was secured alongside expert guidance from organisations such as the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Wildscapes.
Mrs Steenson (our SJF Eco Team coordinator) together with members of the SJF Eco Team, Catherine and other PTFA representatives, even took part in a national video call with the Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education, her senior team and civil servants from across the country to share our plans.
More recently, and again with PTFA support, the project was brought to life by the team at Birley Moor Garden Centre, including Izzy, their specialist in wildlife area design. Reverend Dave, the garden centre owner, and his dedicated team worked tirelessly through the autumn and into the spring to create Izzy’s vision. The project has focused on increasing planting to support and encourage wildlife, and we are excited about the many ways these spaces will now be used by our community.
We extend our sincere thanks to the PTFA for their generous support, including significant funding, and to Izzy, Reverend Dave, and the entire team at Birley Moor Garden Centre. As the final touches are completed, we look forward to making full use of these wonderful new spaces.
