SJF Sporting Superstars!

22nd Jun 2019

Here is a message from Mr Cross:

It’s been a fantastic sporting week at St John Fisher, with our young people representing our community in three different citywide inter-school competitions.

On Monday we had teams involved in the Sheffield Schools’ Orienteering Competition at Norfolk Park! Everyone did really well, especially our Y6 girls’ team who came second, meaning that they qualified for the finals!

On Tuesday a team took part in the annual Catholic Cup hosted by All Saints Catholic School at the Goals Centre. Sadly did not get out of the group stage but the team played really well in some very tight matches and were unlucky not to win more. It was a  great day and everyone had so much fun playing against other schools.

The final event of this great week was the Sheffield Schools’ Athletics Finals which we had qualified for earlier. This prestigious citywide even took place at the Woodburn Road Centre. Again our children were on top form, working hard and trying their best against excellent athletes from the other schools participating. Everyone enjoyed it. The weather held up (unlike last time)and conditions were pretty close to perfect. All our athletes did well, with some really notable individual performances. I was very proud of them.

In all competitions our representatives reflected our school values of passion, teamwork, self-belief, respect, honesty and determination. They shook hands with – and showed respect to – their competitors; tried their very best; refused to give up. We are proud of them all!

Thank you to the parents/carer volunteers who supported us and to my colleagues who work hard both in school time and in their own time in order to support and encourage our children to push themselves, to go further, try new things, and to shine.
