SJF Panto 2025

11th Dec 2025

Panto Day is one of those unique and special occasions that has become a firm favourite in the SJF calendar. It’s a very different kind of school day in the best possible way — a celebration of British culture and tradition; an opportunity for our children to experience live theatre in our city’s beautiful Lyceum Theatre; and a chance for our children to share an unforgettable experience with their classmates.

It is also a celebration of our school community — a moment when we come together once again to create something truly memorable for our amazing children.

Every year — and this year was no exception — we receive numerous compliments from theatre staff, coach drivers and members of the public about the behaviour, manners, engagement and appearance of our children.

Many people commented on how impressed they were to see older pupils supporting their younger peers, for example, helping them to find their seats and finding them booster cushions. These are the sorts of things that we take for granted, but they struck a chord with those who saw it in action.

Our children were incredible! They entered into the spirit of the day with such joy and enthusiasm. Always respectful - they sang, clapped, cheered and booed with gusto, and in all the right places! This year, several members of the public even sought me out to praise our fantastic SJF staff and volunteers for their tremendous vigilance and for the way they cared for our children throughout the visit. One member of the public told a colleague that she would try to book the same performance date as us next year because she had enjoyed it so much!

We were all surprised and delighted by how many children knew — and sang along with — the classic songs and hits, whether it was Mariah Carey or the Kaiser Chiefs, they seemed to know every word, even many of our younger pupils! We were all so proud of them!

We extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Ramsden and Mrs Grayson for the vital behind-the-scenes work that ensured the visit could go ahead.

We are deeply grateful to our incredible PTFA for subsidising the coach travel with an extraordinary £1,500 contribution, and to the many committee members who also volunteered on the day, along with Mr Pursehouse, our Vice-Chair of Governors; reading volunteers; the lovely ladies who run the hugely popular Fun with Stitches after-school club; other parent and carer volunteers; and even our LINKS hockey coach. The PTFA even provided the children with interval snacks!

We also thank the Lyceum Theatre team and Maxfields Travel for looking after us so well. A fantastic day!
