Y1 Science: Exploring Winter (and a Covering of Frost)

6th Dec 2023

As the children had to stay inside at breaktime due to a heavy frost we decided to go and investigate the outside area after breaktime to support their understanding of the seasons and the weather.

After Christmas the children will be learning more about winter and will consider how it differs from autumn.

The children knew that it was frosty because of the very cold temperatures as they looked at frost-covered leaves and stood on mud that was frozen solid. They investigated the frost on the playground and the soft surface beneath climbing frame.

Finally the children wrote their names in the frost on the wooden beams of the climbing equipment, taking photos to remember the moment and what they discovered, so we can refer to theme again in January when we explore winter again.
