During the week our children learned about the origins of Remembrance Sunday and explored why the poppy is our national symbol of remembrance.
It is important that during their time with us, the children develop an appreciation of why this time of the year is so important in the life of our country. As part of our work and prayers, we also reflected on our shared hope for peace in the world.
Today we came together as a community for a simple act of worship and remembrance, as we do every year. Our service was led by the young people of Y6, who shared words, poems and prayers.
Over the week, the children also made their own poppies which were added to simple crosses in each class. During one special moment, in the the service, children from each class processed slowly from the back of the church to lay their class poppy crosses on the Sanctuary, just before ‘The Last Post’, was played.
Some children also created poppies which were arranged by Mrs Steenson into a beautiful commemorative display in the playground.
We thank Fr Bede, for allowing us to use the church, as well as the family, friends, parishioners and members of our local community who were able to join us.
We thank Mr MacInnes and the special young people of Y6 for leading the service; colleagues for supporting, so well, the children with their learning this week’s various remembrance activities, and finally, the children, themselves, who have all engaged so positively over the week.
