RE: Exploring Pentecost
This week in Y1, we have been learning about the very special celebration of Pentecost. We listened to the story of Pentecost and talked about how Jesus’ friends, the disciples, felt worried and unsure after He returned to Heaven. Before He ascended, Jesus made a wonderful promise: He told them that He would send a special helper — the Holy Spirit.
We learnt that on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to the disciples in a powerful way. The Bible describes it as a strong wind, with flames like fire appearing above their heads. The disciples were filled with courage and joy, and they went out to share the Good News of Jesus with everyone.
To deepen our understanding, we acted out the story together in class, using actions and expressions to show how the disciples might have felt. The children thoroughly enjoyed bringing the story to life, and we hope you enjoy looking at the photos of our learning.
We also discovered that Pentecost is celebrated in many different ways around the world. In some countries, homes and churches are decorated with flowers and special Masses are held. In others, people celebrate with processions, music, and joyful gatherings. It was exciting to learn that Catholics across the world come together to celebrate this important feast.
