FS2 Pumpkin Activities
Before the half-term holiday, the children in FS2 had been learning all about harvest time and discovering the different crops and fruits that have been growing over the summer. We had lots of fun exploring our collection of pumpkins and squashes – it’s amazing to think that they all grew from such tiny seeds!
The children created beautiful still-life paintings, decorated the pumpkins, and even used them in their maths activities — comparing, sorting, counting, weighing, and exploring size. We also used the pumpkins to help strengthen our hands, arms, and upper bodies by scrubbing them clean, lifting and carrying them, pushing in golf tees, and stretching elastic bands across them.
Although the pumpkins are no longer fresh enough to eat, we’ll be scooping out the flesh and leaving some of the safe parts in our wildlife area for the animals that live there to enjoy.
