This week the weather has been perfect for investigating the way cold temperatures change water.
The children chose objects to leave out overnight and predicted what might happen...
The next day most of our objects were stuck inside the frozen water. In some places it was less frozen, and we talked about why that could be. The children tried to rescue the toys that were stuck.
They came up with some great suggestions, including placing the frozen water in the sunlight; pouring hot water over it; or taking it inside (where we have heaters).
The most popular idea was to break the ice!
We then tried all the children's suggestions and discussed what we discovered and learned.
