Y6: Hollowford 2019

20th Oct 2019

Below is a report by Vilius about last week’s Y6 residential to the Hollowford Centre, Castleton. Everyone had a fantastic time. I received positive feedback about our pupils’ attitudes and behaviour. My thanks go to the children and to Mrs Barrett, Miss D’Roza and Mr Johnson who joined them.

At Hollowford we did some great activities including: caving, abseiling, canoeing, hill walking and orienteering. It was a great experience I learned and experienced many new things.

I enjoyed caving the most because it was a totally new experience for me and I enjoyed doing the challenges in the cave such as crawling through a tight space, and helping and encouraging children who were not as confident and who felt more challenged than me, to come out of their comfort zones and try new things.

Also I enjoyed abseiling which is something I have never before. We abseiled from a bridge. It was which was about a 50-60ft drop. We had to go down on our own, using a rope to lower ourselves until we reached the bottom and  could be unhooked by our teacher. It was a really scary but a fun experience and I am really glad I pushed myself to do it.

Overall the Hollowford experience was fantastic and I really feel I gained new skills and confidence that I will carry through to future experiences.
