Y1 History: Investigating Firefighter Uniforms

8th Oct 2023

The children had access to a range artefacts to support their learning in history this week.

They investigated a range of firefighter helmets and were encouraged to describe and discuss the features. They offered suggestions about what they were made from and described similarities and differences.

They took note of the shapes and how these evolved- considering different colours and how more modern helmets had visors.

They also noticed that the older helmets fit the children quite well, whereas the newer ones were far too big. They concluded that adults in the past were probably smaller than adults today!

What a great opportunity to see and handle a little part of the past.
