Governorship

26th Feb 2025
Our Governors fulfil a very special strategic role in the life of our school community. The committee is made up of different sorts of Governors, and all are volunteers.

Our Diocese is appealing to parents, carers, grandparents and local pasrishioners to consider becoming Governors here or for other schools across the diocese, and especially Foundation Governors. Information is available on the Hallam Diocese website (here); by calling Amanda Bramall (0114 256 6440); or by emailing (schools@hallam-diocese.com).

For general information about the role of the governors please click here.

Foundation Governors
Foundation Governors are appointed in the name of the bishop and form the majority of the governing body of a Catholic school. They have a legal duty to preserve and develop the Catholic character of the school and to ensure that the school is conducted in accordance with its trust deed.

Parent/Carer Governors
Parent/Carer Governors are elected by other parents and carers of children attending the school, and must have at least one child attending at the time of their election. Parent/Carer Governors do not have to be Catholic.

Co-Opted Governors
Co-Opted Governors are nominated by our Catholic Multi-Academy Trust because they have specific skills and experiences which can support a school community. Co-Opted Governors do not have to have any prior connection to a school community or parish, nor do they have to be practicing Catholics.

SJF Governors
You might recall that recently we said farewell to our Local Academy Committee Chair, Dan Beever, and Nuala Nelis after many years of outstanding service to our community. Both were Foundation Governors. We also welcomed Anthony Wilkinson who joined us as a new Foundation Governor.

At a recent meeting our Governors elected Clair Prestidge to be our new committee Chair. They also re-elected Greg Prusehouse to be Vice-Chair, and we thank them both for agreeing to support us in these key roles.
