SJF Football News: Goal Getters - Glory Setters!

6th Mar 2026

Mr Murphy

On Thursday, a squad of eight of girls from Years 5 and 6 competed in an inter-school football tournament hosted at the Isobel Bowler Sports Centre, with players representing two other schools.

In the first game our girls managed a hard-fought 1-0 victory thanks to an opposition own goal following a javelin-like throw-in from Renae,  leaving particularly happy smiles on the faces of the girls.

The second game was a particularly tough match. After an initial stalemate the girls ended as victors with a convincing 4-0 scoreline, thanks to fantastic goals from Natalia (2), Seren and Renae.

The two victories meant that the girls were the overall winners of the tournament which is a fantastic achievement considering this was their first one playing together and representing SJF!

I am incredibly proud of our footballers and the fantastic levels of determination that they all displayed! They not only supported their teammates in their successes and mistakes but also the children from the other competing schools, always being the first to help them back up if they fell and shaking hands with their opponents after every game.

A big thank you to parents and carers for their wonderful support on the sidelines.

Congratulations to entire SJF squad, we are incredibly proud of you all!
