SJF Eco Team Update: The Swift Network

6th Mar 2024

On Tuesday, the SJF Eco Team welcomed representatives from the Swift Network for an informative and exciting presentation. Our members learned about the problems faced by these birds, with numbers declining rapidly year upon year.

The Team also invited representatives from the School Council to the meeting, whom we are hoping will join us in producing some fundraising ideas, with the objective being that our school will have its own 'Swift Bricks' fitted at some point.

Katie, a Y6 Eco Team member is really excited to get the project started, and has some words to say on the matter: "Not only do we want to raise some money to help the swifts, we also want to raise awareness. We want to create a huge campaign that will make local families more informed about the simple steps they can take at home to help."

Everyone enjoyed the talk, which the children became extremely passionate about. Ann and Chet, from the Swift Network, have since been in touch to say how much they enjoyed meeting “...the lovely, incredibly well behaved children. They really engaged with Chet's talk. It was lovely to see such enthusiasm!

Our members were then presented with a donation of a wooden Swift Box, which we are hoping to have fitted onto the school building before the Swift season in May.

We would all like to thank Ann and Chet, of the Swift Network, for their extremely kind donation.

We would also like to thank Mrs Steenson for her hard work in setting up the meeting and preparing the children so well.
