Y1: A Special Visitor

11th Jun 2019

Today we welcomed Mr McGurrin to Y1.

We have been thinking about how we can find out about what our school was like in the past.

The children decided that asking someone who worked here in the past was a good idea.

Mr McGurrin was a much-loved Headteacher who led the school for 25 years (1982-2007). He retains a great interest in all the things we do and even gives up his precious time each week to support hymn practise each week - along with Mrs Downes, a former teacher.

The children had prepared well, and had written their own questions to ask him during his visit.

He told them about the old uniform, the differences in the building and how rewards and punishments changed over the years.

We will now use this information to write about school in the past compared with today.

A big thank you to our special visitor for giving up his time!

Looking for a great school?
"St John Fisher is a school where pupils are safe, happy and valued. Staff are deeply
invested in pupils’ academic and pastoral development. The school has high ambitions for
what pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), can
learn. These ambitions are realised effectively. As a result, pupils achieve very well."
