Y4 Black History Month: Our Diary Entries

20th Oct 2023

We have been celebrating Black History Month in Y4 and have been inspired by the true story of Floella Benjamin who left her island home of Trinidad and emigrated to England in 1960.

It wasn’t easy.

The book ‘Coming to England’ is a story about the triumph of hope, love and determination and a reminder that courage can always overcome adversity. It was included in our 2021-22 SJF book list accessible via this link.

Inspired by Floella’s experience on her first day at school, the children have written their own diary entries to describe events in the first person and have focused on sharing their thoughts and feelings.
