Y3 Art: The LIfe and Works of Barbara Hepworth

29th Apr 2025

Today we took our learning outside. The Y3 children have researched the artist/sculptor Barbara Hepworth to discover what inspired her. At the moment, this is what they discovered:

  • Barbara Hepworth was a famous artist born in Yorkshire, England
  • She was born in 1903 and died in 1975
  • Her artwork is described as 'abstract'
  • She is famous for saying ‘I rarely draw what I see. I draw what I feel in my body.’

Firstly, the children went outside to find special spaces to help them to 'feel'. They then took their pencil for a walk to draw what they felt - in abstract ways. They all did a great job!
