Y4 History: Investigating Athens and Sparta!

28th May 2026

In History this week, our Y4 children learned about the similarities and differences between the important cities of Athens and Sparta in Ancient Greece. Athens valued education, art and culture, whereas Sparta valued strength and fitness, training its male citizens to become fierce warriors.

The children also learned about democracy in Ancient Greece before taking part in their own class debate to decide which city would have been the best place to live. A democratic vote was then cast using pebbles, just as the Ancient Greeks once did! Mrs Hambleton reported that Sparta received the highest number of votes!

Well done, everyone!
