Y6 Science: Who was Carl Linnaeus?

3rd Dec 2023

This week, as we continue to learn about the different ways in which living things can be classified, the children of Y6 have studied the life and work of Swedish biologist Carl Linnaeus. The children worked hard to understand the scientific significance of what came to be known as the Linnaean system: a method of classifying organisms, including plants, animals and microorganisms, into different groups according to their characteristics. We then learnt about how this system of taxonomy, first suggested by Linnaeus in 1735, became the basis for how scientists classify animals and plants today, as well as how classification helps us to understand the world around us.

Finally, the children created these fantastic non-chronological reports to record their learning.
