Y1 Art: Joan Miro

19th Jan 2022

We have been learning about the art created by the famous Spanish artist, Joan Miro.

He painted in what is described as a 'magical realist' style.

The children studied some of his work and shared thoughts about what they could see and how it made them feel. They reflected on those aspects that looked real and those that appeared more magical and dreamlike.

They thought about how some of the images and objects included by Miro in his painting looked more-or-less as they would in real life whereas others looked quite different, for example a lady with huge feet.

The children learned how Miro liked to experiment, using different shapes and lines, as well as symbols, in his artwork and used this as the inspiration when creating their own Miro-inspired studies.
