Y1: Classifying Animals

We have been learning to classify animals into the following groups: mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish and insects.

The children have been investigating some of the key features of each, for example:

mammals are warm blooded and give birth to their young
birds are warm blooded and have a beak and feathers
amphibians are cold blooded and live on land and in water
reptiles are cold blooded and have ear holes (not ears)
fish have fins rather than legs and lay their eggs in water

Children participated in some drama activities; pretending to be some of the animals in each of the groups.
