BSBHW 2019: A Busy Week in Y1!

3rd Nov 2019

What a busy week we are having!  We have been learning how to be safe and happy in lots of different ways.

Nurse Denham visited to explain how important it is to wash our hands and how to do it well.

Would you believe singing 'Happy Birthday' can help you to judge the correct length of time you need to wash your hands for?

Ask your child to show you all the special hand movements!

After the nurse visit the children wrote instructions or ordered pictures to tell others how to wash hands.

We used NSPCC information and a dinosaur called Pantosaurus to learn about the important underwear rule!  The children then designed some very fancy designs on pants shapes to hang on the classroom washing line.

Firefighter Sam (yes, really he is really a Fireman called Sam) visited us to talk about how to stay safe at home and school.

He talked about the importance of knowing where escape routes are, never playing with matches, lighters or fire, how to Stop, Drop and Roll and why and how to call 999.

He brought in some of his protective uniform for the children to touch and smell.

The children were able to ask lots of questions that they had though of. Later on they helped to create a class poster with all of the ways Sam told us to be safe.

Castle Martial Arts visited and led a session where the children practised new skills.

Getting and keeping fit and healthy was definitely fun.  Lots of smiling faces.

Taylor Shaw visited and we learnt about the importance of a healthy balanced diet.  The children used exercise to make a healthy smoothie. Afterwards we had a story called 'The Healthy Wolf' on the same theme.

We also had a visit from Mr Paige from Harron Homes telling us all about building site safety. Each child was given a goody bag to take home.

We listened to the importance of drinking clean water and how lucky we are to have it, in an assembly.

It's been a very busy week and it's only Wednesday, with lots more planned for later in the week.

A huge thank you to all of our visitors who have given up their time to come and visit our school and the help pass on such important life messages to our children.
